Reverend Dr. James Bankhead, Jr. retired from Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin, TX in December 2011. He previously served as Senior Pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo, TX from 1999 until 2010, and as Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Opelika, AL from 1978 – 1999. He also served at the 6,600 member Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas, TX as Minister to college students and oversaw the educational program at North Avenue Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, GA for two years. Jim is a graduate of Presbyterian College and received his Master of Divinity degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. He completed his dissertation for Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA, earning his Doctor of Ministry degree in 1993
Jim’s wife, Cissy, is the son of Charles and Carolyn Marvin of Aiken, SC. Charles Marvin served as a trustee for Faith Chapel, and the Marvins spent many summers at their Cedar Mountain home that Jim and Cissy now enjoy as a retreat from their home in Spartanburg, SC.
