Rev. Furman L. Buchanan is Rector of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Greenville, S.C. where he has served since October 2010. He received his M.Div. with honors from the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee in 2006 and his undergraduate studies at Wofford College in Spartanburg, receiving a B.A. in Philosophy in 1989. His discernment about Holy Orders and seminary education followed a career in marketing and public relations at Fowler Communications, Inc. in Columbia, S.C.
In addition to his parochial responsibilities, Furman also serves as the ecumenical and interfaith officer for the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina. He has been an active participant in the ongoing public education support and advocacy initiative by the bishops of the Roman Catholic diocese, the Evangelical Lutheran Synod, the United Methodist Conference, and the Episcopal dioceses in South Carolina.
