Visiting Clergy
Rev. Brian Gilmer serves as Lead Pastor at Travelers Rest United Methodist Church in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. He has pastored four other South Carolina United Methodist Churches, including Buncombe Street in Greenville, South Carolina where he served three years as Senior Pastor.
Brian served on the Board of Trustees of The Middle Tyger Community Center in Lyman, South Carolina and was named Wanda Fowler Community Champion in 2019. He completed the Public Safety Chaplaincy Certification Program at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in 2020 and serves as a Chaplain for the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Department’s K9 Unit. While in Lyman, Brian was invited to participate in the Royce and Jane Reynolds Program in Church Leadership. He is a past member of the South Carolina United Methodist Conference Board of Congregation Development and Chair of the Spartanburg District Committee on Congregational Development.
He graduated from Spartanburg Methodist College and continued at USC-Spartanburg, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. He then went to Erskine Theological Seminary in Due West, South Carolina, where he received his Master of Divinity degree.
He and his wife, Jennifer, have a daughter, Bryson.
