Visiting Clergy
Rev. Brian Gilmer just began his fourth year as one of the Pastors at Travelers Rest United Methodist Church in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. He has pastored five other South Carolina United Methodist Churches since beginning his pastoral ministry career in 1999.
Brian graduated from Spartanburg Methodist College and continued his education at USC-Spartanburg graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. He then went to Erskine Theological Seminary in Due West, SC and received his Master of Divinity degree. He completed the Public Safety Chaplaincy Certification Program at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in 2020, and now serves as a teaching assistant in this program.
Brian is the K9 Unit Chaplian and the Volunteer Chaplain Coordinator for the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Department. In this role he leads a team of 11 chaplains that serve the men and women that protect the Spartanburg County community.
Brian’s hobbies include doing weekly ride alongs with the SCSO K9 team, fishing and spending time with wife Jennifer , daughter Bryson, and the family’s lovable Golden Retriever, Murphy.
